I know, I know, I know....you're not kids but you always will be in my heart. Today is Mother's Day and it is one of the hardest days of the year for me. While I have always yearned to be a mother and have my own child, it just wasn't what God had planned for my life. Instead He has blessed me with each and every one of you. I don't think any of you will ever know how much I love you and how grateful I am that God has put you in my life . You have each put up with me in so many different ways - my moods, my serious/strict personality, my anger, my many tears, and my heart for others. I have drug some of you through some very difficult times but yet you have stood by me as well as you could. Each of you have an extremely special place in my heart, whether I keep in touch with you today or not, and always will. I am often overwhelmed by the love I have for each of you and burdened for all of the kids out there that have never felt loved.
So, while Mother's Day is hard because of not giving birth naturally, and having to allow myself to grieve that loss, it is even more so overwhelming knowing how much God has blessed me through each of you. This is a day I often look in your eyes and see sadness and longing. It is not that you don't appreciate what you have but it is a reminder of your own birth mothers and the aching you have in your heart for her. For some, no matter what you've been through or how you've been treated, nothing can take away the love you have for your own mother and not being able to see her on this day is so hard for you. Others of you, that longing I see in your eyes, is due to today being a reminder of what you didn't have with your mother and the ache in your heart as you watch other kids celebrating and mothers embracing their children, just like you have always longed for your own mother to do to you. I want you each to know that, while the love I have for you is never intended to replace the love of your own mother, I love you each like you are my own. Each of you bring such incredible characteristics and strength to my life. Some of you I have known for a long time, others for a short time and even yet others I have not even met yet. Know that my prayer for you is that you will be able to, one day, fully embrace this love and pour it out on your own children, never letting them go.
So while Mother's Day is celebrated by all the families around us, know that I love each of you deeply. I stand back, giving you the distance you so need, and lavish in the love that each of you pour out on me. While my eyes are full of tears, know that my heart is filled with joy. Joy of knowing the greatness ahead for each of us as we move forward together, as family.
With much LOVE,
Ms. Maurita.....aka Mom
